The Course
(Courses are no longer available Founder Alan Hickman has cancer and is unable to continue at this time)
Peel
Teaching Garden offers a free winter gardening course for Brampton and
Caledon home gardeners. The course is comprised of nine classes which
are held approximately biweekly from January through April. The first
class of the season will be held on the first Saturday of January,
from 2 - 4:30 pm. (January to April , sign up by December 31)
The program is of interest both to people who
have never gardened before and to those who have gardened all their
lives. There is a basic core content, but the course is flexible and the
classes are adjusted to address the needs and interests of the
attendees.
Pre-requisites for the course are an open mind, curiosity and a
sense of humour.
The Cost
While we do not make a financial charge, in return for the course training, each attendee commits to contributing 16 hours, helping in the fairground gardens. The time commitment amounts to an average of two hours per month from April to November and can be contributed at such times as an individual chooses.
Because we are using the premises of the Region of Peel Agricultural Society for the classes and are gardening on society land, for insurance purposes, it is required that everyone associated with Peel Teaching Garden also be a member of the society. The membership fee is $5.00 and this will be collected at the first class.
