Things to do in August


Make note of spaces that could use a new plant.

Continue deadheading of annuals, perennial and roses.

Fertilize plants in containers and hanging baskets.

Take root cuttings of perennials for propagating.

Take cuttings of shrubs such as camellia, wiegela and butterfly bush.

Collect seeds of plants you want to propagate

Prune climbing roses

Prune vines to control growth.

Plant or divide irises if not already done

Clip lavender as flowering finishes.

Stop watering roses to slow growth in preparation for winter.

Give annuals such as petunias and lobelia a hard pruning to revive them.

Renew soil in Cold frame.

Gather herbs and flowers for drying

Seed a fall crop of peas

Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour.
