We believe that letting nature do things naturally is the best way to get out of it what we put into it. Passive Composting is a means to this end. Collecting organic material and placing it into a pile surrounded by 4 skids and letting our yard waste compost naturally.
Compost is one of natures best fertilizers. Remember to alternate between green and brown materials. You can add anything to the compost bin. Tea bags, coffee grounds, filters, sawdust and wood shavings from untreated lumber, juice and non-dairy beverages, vegetables, fruit peels, grass clippings, garden waste, leaves, etc. Your garden will appreciate the nutrient rich compost and so will your wallet.

After compost pile is created and you have started adding carbon rich, wood chips, leaves and other nitrogen rich "green" materials (kitchen scraps, grass, clippings from the garden) in layers you should occasionally aerate the pile with shovel or fork so that it receives oxygen to help in the decomp. The bigger your compost pile the better. Heat is higher in a larger pile.
In the garden we add whatever we have into the pile.

Compost bins are used throughout the nursery gardens. Everything we use is donated or processed on site. Donated and delivered to us is sand, mulch, aged manure. We also receive the used hay accumulated from the Fall Fair. This is used to cover next years beds.
