October 31, 2007

Up for 4 1/2 hours this morning. Cleared 4 rows of weeds, a good
jump on next spring. Moved some onions found growing in and
around some iris to the end of the row. Alan and Kathy popped in
dropping off some yard waste from the gardens and picking up
trays to collect canna corms from the wedding garden. Kathy has
some layout ideas for the garden and asked for my opinion. I didn't
get up to see before she left.
Removed canna corms from the last row in block B and corms from
one of the middle rows in the same block. After frost has hit the
foliage remove foliage from corms at 1 to 2" above corm, shake all
dirt from roots and let dry. Cover with vermiculite and store in
a cool dry place over winter. Removed Acidanthera bulbs, young
and old, removed foliage to 1" above bulb, removed soil, and placed
on trays for travel to storage. Alan says all he does is place bulbs
in onion bags and stores them like he does tulip bulbs.
Popped over to the wedding garden and spoke with Alan. Said a
quick Hi to Moeen who was pulling dahlia bulbs out of the front
garden around the building.
