Wow!! What a first class. Many of the students had arrived before or around 1:30pm as requested to sign up with Agricultural SOciety. 5 past volunteers also came to the first class. At 2:00 pm we had 2 seats left of the 30 seats set up. We started class and had 3 more students arrive making 31 students and the largest class so far. Alan set out explaining who we are and what the Peel Teaching Garden is about and after several introductions around the room we had a short quiz. By 3:05 we had a break and enjoyed delicious garlic cookies and lemon cookies made by our host (Alan). Everyone raved about the garlic cookies (made with garlic grown at the garden) and by the end of the class there were none left. The sumptuous lemon cookies were only 1/2 gone, excellent but apparently the garlic cookies took top marks. Several asked for the recipe. The balance of the class was spent discussing the PTG speak and showing students the proper way to hold a knife. (Yes, there is a right way to hold a knife!)
The biggest thing we hope for from our classes is that each student go home after 2 hours having learned at least 1 new thing. I believe many of our students did exactly that.
