Things to do in April

Lift and divide perennials as required. Plant new acquisitions.

Rake your lawn using a spring back rake.

Slowly remove mulch from roses. Remove winter covers.

Plant shrubs, trees and hedges.

Prune roses, feed them only when active growth is present.

Transplant biennials (violas, pansies, foxglove, etc.)

Harden off and plant our pansy seedlings started in January.

Repair lawn damage with topsoil and or seed.

Plant early vegetables (peas, radishes, onions, etc.)

Check paper for Annual flower shows.

Start to feed houseplants on monthly basis. Prune and or repot overgrown plants.

Pot up canna lilies.

Harden off and move cool season crops to garden

Begin weekly inspections of plants for disease/insect problems, treat immediately.

Plant asparagus roots and onion sets

Begin monitoring for signs of disease

Re-mulch beds as required

Remove mulch from the top of flowers

Pull annual and perennial weeds as they appear

Prune deciduous trees and shrubs (except ones that flower or have running sap in spring e.g. maples, lilacs)
