A little cool this morning, but, perfect working weather. I arrived at 8:30 and started covering some of the beds with the straw that had been moved in earlier. Fixed a couple of the paths in between the peony beds and laid more straw in these. Alan arrived to do some spraying that he had been saying he would do all summer. We started discussing some of the crops. All the garlic is now lifted, the onions are growing beautifully but we were unsure on how to proceed. You are supposed to wait for the tops to die back before lifting them. We decided to bend the tops to stop the growing. We'll wait another week or two and then lift them. Moeen arrived and helped bend the tops of the onions. Alan has been digging potatoes regularly. And this will continue until all are dug up. Remember if you wish to get some just let Alan know you will be coming up and his van always has some of the picked crop in the back for you to take home. I picked the last of the carrot crop. After this it was 12:15. Alan and I spent the next 45 minutes consulting on the best ways of proceeding with the crop rotation and plantings for this fall and spring. At 1:00 I called it a day. Went home and made some cabbage rolls using one of the onions the mice had dug under.
