As the temperatures steadily decline it is time to make sure your garden has a good blanket of leaves or other mulch to help it over the winter. We generally see a good blanket of snow anytime from late December until mid/late March. The freeze/thaw cycles can be a problem for some perennials causing heaving. Your mulch will help these plants get through it generally unscathed. The leaves you collected from your neighbours will definately help. If you haven't already, make sure to shred these before spreading them around.
