Update from Alan

Linda arrived at 12:30 and sifted a barrow-load of old cattle compost preparatory to muscari bulb planting. The bed was still extremely wet with puddles at the south end. About an inch of dry sifted compost was spread on the soil and the muscari bulbs were spread sort of evenly over the surface. Fortunately all the bulbs were used up before we got to the puddles. More compost was poured over the bulbs and that was sufficient to allow the bed to be walked on. Finally the wet sloppy soil, that had been removed a week before, was shovelled back onto the bed to give about a four inch cover.
All the remaining leeks were dug up along with the last few weeds, and by lockup time (16:00) it was clouding over and the light was going. This might have been the last day working in the garden for this year. [Min Temp -06̊C]
