Here we go everyone!! Today is the day we get into the garden. We have several things that need to be done in order to start the plantings in May so we hope to see as many volunteers as possible out today. See you at 2pm bring appropriate attire and footwear and your gardening tools.

I brought Linda with me and we arrived just after 1:00. Alan was already hard at work getting ready for the volunteers. He had the potting shed completely pulled apart, sorting pots by size to find the right fit for the dahlia's.
I was completely surprised to find that the chalk board and dry erase board had been pulled from the tool shed and mounted on the side wall of the potting shed. They will come in handy to let people know what needs to be done or what's available for picking and taking home.

We had an excellent turnout and like the classes people were sent in all directions. As people arrived we had them sign in and put them in Block A removing the straw from the merging tulips and daffodils. After a good portion of the class arrived we seperated them into smaller groups.


A few were sent off to the new Blocks F,G and H to unload and cover the area with straw.

Four people were sent off to the area behind the potting shed to seperate and pot up dahlia's and canna's. Only dahlia's got potted and several tubers were seperated but not potted. We put those aside and these will be potted as soon as hands are available. Once they reach a nice size they will planted out to the gardens.


We had a small detail sent off to the corner garden to clear out last years debris, weeds and grass that has invaded. We have to cover the entire bed with leaf mulch. This will cut down on the maintenance once the area has been planted out.


We had two sent off to plant onion seedlings. One stayed until 5:00 just to get the assignment finished. Near the end she was having trouble seeing the grass size blades and where they had been planted.


And last but certainly not least we had a couple of people planting Helianthus maximilianii from the Main Building garden to there new home along the annexed fence area.


Our volunteers managed to cover alot of ground in 2 1/2 hours and we feel the outdoor class was definately worth it. We hope you feel the same way!!
