Arrived at PTG this morning with clouds in the sky, a beautiful breeze and no one around. In no time the clouds parted and the breeze was warmer. We put up the umbrella which gave us a bit of shelter and set out to our tasks.
We spent two hours watering, weeding and trimming and sweating.
The hose on the far side of Block B was completely buried among the tall grasses and weeds and spent a good 15 minutes to a half hour freeing it in order to use the water. The ground is hard from lack of rain making it difficult to remove weeds. However, in the garden beds where the ground has been worked and worked over the years weeds came out with no problems.
The main display beds are not looking too bad considering the weather and lack of volunteers.

Linda phoned last night re working today. We agreed to take the weekend off and start again on Monday. Took Lucas and Spencer along the escarpment trail early and picked and ate the first of this year’s wild raspberries. For the record: the average July rainfall is 74.4 mm, so far we have had 4.4 mm. Average days per year at Pearson with temperatures above 37 degrees 0.5 - i.e. once every couple of years - this year 4 so far. Regarding rain, coming north on Kennedy Road from Steeles yesterday around 17:00, the west side of the road and the side streets were rain soaked with puddles all over, but the east side - northbound - was bone dry. Must have been quite the local downpour over Peel Village a few minutes before I arrived. Went to the nursery at 16:30 to water pots. 34 degrees. Margaret emailed to record a couple of hours this morning working on the peony collection.
